• Niles-based Garvey’s Office Products, Illinois’ largest independently-owned office supply distributor, was recently named an Illinois Family Business of the Year by The Family Business Center at Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business. Garvey’s is an 88 year old company led by six second-generation siblings. The five brothers and one sister learned the business from their father and have worked together for 22 years.

• Northbrook-based KemperLesnik, a leading public relations, sports marketing and events management agency, today announced the addition of Scott Janess as vice president of events. He joins KemperLesnik as part of the agency’s recent acquisition of inPLAY Events, a lifestyle events company Janess founded in 2000.
• Internationally known cardiothoracic surgeon Ed McGee, Jr., MD, who specializes in heart transplants and implantable heart pumps, has joined Loyola University Medical Center. McGee, who lives in Oak Park, comes to Loyola from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was surgical director of heart transplantation and mechanical assistance for the past 10 years.
